NESLIHAN KARAYEL
Yachtmaster - Instructor
Founder of Women’s Sailing School

After years of working at various levels of management in international companies, I’ve decided that what makes my heart beat faster is the sea and sailing. My belief that “women can make a difference for a better world” became the motto of Women’s Sailing School. With close friends

who share the same belief and dreams, we organize training programs and international events. Our aim is to bring together women from different cultures, setting an example of understanding and solidarity; and to help women become aware of the power in themselves which, in essence,

is the power that enables them to make a difference for a better world, a better future...

WOMEN’S SAILING SCHOOL

Women’s Sailing School is the first and only sailing school in Turkey that aims to unite women from all over the world and play an active role in helping women defend their own rights. It is also globally unique because it only organizes events for amateur women sailors. We organize training programs of various levels; flotillas (International Women’s Sailing Week) that offer participants the chance to make new friends, explore one of the world’s best cruising areas, acquire or enhance sailing skills and have lots of fun; and also race weeks (International Women’s Sailing Cup).

„The cure for anything is salt water — sweat, tears, or the sea“

I discovered my passion for sailing “accidentally” on my first lesson with Neslihan; when

I was trying to recover from an accident. I was  fascinated by the nature, by feeling one with the

wind and the sea. The wind blows equally over all cultures, religions and sexes.

Working for international organizations for more than two decades I do pursue my strong

devotion for peace-making, world justice, human rights and gender equality. I truly believe

that the world will be a better place simply by empowering women.

I have been interested in all kinds of sports throughout my life, especially judo, table tennis, handball, skiing, swimming, windsurfing and last but not the least, sailing.
I have started sailing at the age of 10 and improved my skills later in Baltic Sea and in the Med.
I became a founder of Sollare Sailing School, have participated in more than 50 yacht races as the skipper and left more than 50.000 nautical miles behind me. I have trained more than 1500 people to become sailors and seaman.

I love the sea and when it comes to sailing, oh, there’s so much to learn…
I believe in Neslihan’s motto with all my heart and I try my best to take some of the load off

her shoulders, especially in organizing the international events. We believe that women are

strong and courageous, and they have a limitless capacity for love and understanding. With

the contribution of others who share our beliefs and dreams, we’re going to become one big

family and sail together into that better future world…
